Chapter Six
Selina
After a night of pure pleasure, Vance drops me off at the dance studio so I can grab my car before I head home this morning. Thankfully, I donât have any classes until later this afternoon, because I desperately need a good soak in the tub after the workout he gave me last night.
My skin flushes as memories of the night we spent together play through my mind on a movie reel. Last night awakened a need for him that is both overwhelming and frightening all at once. Iâve never connected with another man in the way I connected with him, and I probably never will.
As I turn into my parentsâ driveway, climb out of the car, and head for the door, I contemplate spending the rest of my life here in Dixie Point. Being able to teach other girls to follow their dreams, no matter what the cost, the same way Ms. Cassandra taught me. That idea alone makes my heart swell, but then I remember everything I will have to give up if I stay.
Dancing the lead in a ballet was always my goal since I auditioned for Juilliard on a whim. Ever since that day, I knew that dancing was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Being under the lights and dancing my heart out is an adrenaline rush that Iâve only felt one other time before: the day I told Vance I loved him for the first time.
âCan someoneâs dream change?â I say into the empty house.
As I turn to close the door, I glimpse a familiar car pulling in and sigh. Leave it to Bristol to come calling first thing in the morning, wanting to know all the juicy details.
I leave the front door open as I hang my keys on the hook beside the door and head towards the stairs.
âAre you just getting home?â Bristol says as she comes into the house.
âThey looked mighty cozy when they left Connorâs place last night. Iâd be shocked if she made it home before now,â Audrey chimes in as she quietly closes the front door behind her.
âYou two might as well come up. I need to shower,â I mutter, whining internally as my dreams of taking a nice relaxing soak fly out the window.
They follow me up the stairs and into my bedroom, plopping down on the end of my bed. I drop my bag beside them and continue into my bathroom. I donât bother closing the door; modesty is something I lost a long time ago. Besides, if theyâre here this early in the morning, they won't let something as trivial as a closed door stand in their way of getting the juicy details.
Trying to delay the inevitable for as long as possible, I strip down to my panties and turn on the shower. âHow did things go with you and Connor last night, Audrey? You seemed pretty cozy when Vance and I left.â
âAmazing. Letâs just be glad Vance texted before you all came in the door.
